What is an email whitelist?
Most email services have put in place blocking or filtering systems to work out whats spam and what’s not. But sometimes they get it wrong.
Those valuable emails we actually want can get lost.
To solve this, you can create a ‘whitelist’. This whitelist is a list of the email addresses and domain names that you want to hear from. Your email provider then makes sure they don’t get lost n the spam folder.
Here’s a quick guide to whitelisting for the most popular email services.
Outlook 2003 & Later
Right-click on the message in your inbox. Select ‘Junk E-mail’ from the menu. Click ‘Add Sender to Safe Senders List’. Easy!
- In your inbox, select the email you want to add.
- Drag this email to the ‘Primary’ tab of your inbox.
- Emails from that person will go into your primary folder from now on.
Open your mail, and select ‘Mail’ and ‘Preferences’ from the top menu
In the ‘Preferences’ window, click the ‘Rules’ icon. Click the ‘Add Rule’ button.
In the ‘Rules’ window, type a name for the rule in the description field. Type the senders email you wish to receive emails from (in this case, email@example.com) in the text field beside the ‘Contains’ selection box.
Select ‘Move Message’ and ‘Inbox’ from the drop-down menus. Click ‘Ok’ to save the rule.
