Engaging internal comms content

Grab their attention and get colleagues to actually read it

A hands-on course for internal communications professionals on writing and creating content like articles, staff emails, newsletters intranet pages, briefing notes and social-style updates, so your work gets read, not scrolled past.

Think about what actually lands in your inbox on a normal Tuesday.

HR wants everyone told about the new flexible working policy. IT needs staff briefed before a laptop rollout. Facilities wants the car park closure noticed, not ignored. L&D has just found out only 18% of people have finished mandatory training.

Somewhere in there you’re also turning a twenty-page policy into a one-page “what this means for you” guide, or finding the right tone for a CEO thank-you message after a big announcement.

This course is built ato liven up the everyday, unglamorous requests that make up most of the job, and how to turn each one into something people actually read.

During the session we will cover:

  • What actually makes colleagues stop, read and act, backed by real examples
  • Formats that work for colleagues on the intranet, email, newsletter and instant messaging
  • How to be more playful without losing credibility with senior stakeholders
  • Turning a dry policy or HR update into something people want to open
  • A toolkit you can take straight back to your desk
We made this course because comms people told us they are challenged by:
  • sBarely anyone reads the intranet, opens the newsletter, or reacts to the Teams post
  • sConstant competition with email overload and channel fatigue
  • sWorry that anything too playful will look unprofessional to senior colleagues
  • sNot knowing how to translate a dry policy or HR update into something people want to read
  • sFeeling like they're broadcasting into a void with no idea what will land with colleagues
And we designed the training so comms pros can:
  • Easily create content that gets opened, read and actually acted on
  • Have a toolkit of formats that work across intranet, email, newsletter and instant messaging
  • Increase their confidence to be a bit more playful without losing credibility
  • Hear fewer "did you see the email?" conversations because people already saw it
  • Gain a sense that internal comms makes an impact, so they're not just chucking stuff out and hoping

Managers: why you should send your colleague on this course

Internal communications and organisational change only works if people actually consumen and undertand the content we share with them.

This course gives your team practical formats and hands-on practice, so fewer messages disappear unread and fewer important updates need repeating.

About your course tutor

Hel Reynolds is the founder of Comms Creatives Academy, a comms creatitivy expert, and has been training communications professionals for over a decade.

She uses her decades of comms experience along with tecniques from psychology, storytelling, cartoons and the occasional very specific example to make ideas stick and keep it interesting.

Sometimes it feels like colleagues wouldn’t take notice of our comms if we tatooed messages on their arms! Thankfully, I have tips and tricks to grab their attention so you hear “I didn’t see it anywhere” a bit less.

This course is a tactical and creative little sister to our more strategic, in-depth Internal Comms Expert Programme run by the IC legend, Jessica Roberts.
