Do brands need to transfer from Twitter to Mastodon?

by | Nov 19, 2022

Lots of our clients working in social media and comms are asking about Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, and if they should move their brand over to Mastodon or other channels.

Here’s the advice we’re giving for now.

Now is a good time to analyse what Twitter is (or has been) doing for your brand.

We can’t predict what platforms will live or die but we can spend our comms energy wisely.

  1. Have you built a community of people who engage with your work on Twitter?

  2.  If so – do you understand who they are and why they are interested in you there?

  3. What do you do on Twitter that’s different to what you do elsewhere?

If your answers are ‘not much’ – transferring over to another platform like Mastodon may be a waste of time.

You might just be bunging a whole load of stuff that people don’t want to see or hear into another place.

But…

If you have clear answers to these questions, they should steer you in the right direction later.

No need to hurry.

It’s impossible to know what will happen, so concentrate on your strategy – who you want to talk to, what you want to say and how you build trust and community 😀

We have a social media strategy course coming up if you want some help working it out.
